While there’s ongoing discussions as to whether the pressure on global supply chains has peaked and might be nearing a turning point, one thing is for certain – 2022 is another significant year for the global logistics industry.
Lockdowns and factory shutdowns – particularly in Asia – continue to drive unprecedented labor and parts shortages, disrupting logistics networks on a local, regional and global level.
For example, port traffic tracked by Bloomberg shows container congestion continues to disrupt the US supply chain from Charleston, South Carolina, to the West Coast. In fact, the tally of ships queuing for the neighboring gateways of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California, continued to extend into Mexican waters, totaling 111 vessels in mid-January, nearly double the amount in July 2021.
With over 5.3 million development hours invested in building our CargoWise platform, we are at the technological forefront in managing international and cross-border logistics, changes in trade patterns and evolving logistics regulations.
Our technology is purpose built to help you optimize export and import processes and get increased control over international compliance. It helps you correctly classify your goods and meet regulatory requirements with real-time legislation updates and reference materials at your fingertips.
Here’s a few of the latest Global Trade Management and Compliance features added to CargoWise this month.
Changes to the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) in the United States
The AMS administers programs that create domestic and international marketing opportunities for US producers of food, fiber, and specialty crops. AMS also provides the agriculture industry with valuable services to ensure the quality and availability of wholesome food for consumers across the country and around the world.
Late last year, changes were made to the AMS PGA Implementation Guide, including updates to the user interface, intended use codes, disclaim options and message content. CargoWise has been updated to reflect these changes and ensure you stay compliant with the refreshed Implementation Guide.
Streamlined Brazil export references
Recent changes to Brazil’s export systems and processes mean the Cargo and Transit Control system now requires specific export references to be displayed on Air Waybills.
On top of now being able to save Brazil specific export references in the Shipment and Consolidation for exports, CargoWise has been updated to ensure key references are displayed on Air Waybills. Specifically, the DU-E (Declaração Únicade Exportação) and RUC (Referência Única de Carga) on the House Air Waybill, along with the Master RUC (MRUC) on the Master Air Waybill.
Changes to Off-Road Small Spark Ignition (SSI) regulations in Canada
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) recently introduced updates to the Off-Road SSI Engine Emission Regulations, whereby trade chain partners are now required to report all applicable emission families, which includes the “engine family” and the “evaporative family”.
CargoWise has been updated to reflect these changes, to help keep you compliant. Now when the relevant process code is entered, the evaporative family field is visible and once data is entered, will send in the ECCC PGA IID submission.
Consignee personal ID number updates in Kenya
For goods being imported to Kenya, the Kenya Revenue Authority now requires that the carrier manifest reporting includes the Kenyan individual or company’s tax identification number. As a result, the Personal Identification Number of Kenyan organizations must be stated on the shipping instructions for import sea cargo to Kenya.
To ensure you stay compliant, the consignee’s personal identification number is now defaulted to the Shipping Instruction form in CargoWise and is included in the electronic message sent to the ocean carrier or NVOCC.
