When people think of product management in a tech company, they often assume that a deep technical background is essential. At WiseTech Global, that’s not always the case.

While our products are at the forefront of logistics technology, our product managers come from diverse backgrounds, bringing industry knowledge, problem-solving skills, and a passion for innovation.

Christ Kpodar, Senior Product Manager – Warehouse, is a perfect example of how hands-on industry experience can lead to a successful career in product management at WiseTech.

Meet Christ

Christ began his career specializing in IT and digital transformation projects in France before moving to Australia.

Here he joined a major French-headquartered freight forwarding company in their Sydney office, where he supported the implementation of warehousing systems across Australia. His role covered everything from business requirements analysis and user testing to change management, ensuring the technology met customer needs and was fit for purpose.

“I didn’t set out to work in logistics, but when the opportunity came, I embraced it,” Christ shares. “Logistics is complex – it’s like a black box – but that’s what makes it exciting. You’re constantly learning and solving new problems.”

Leading the industry with innovative solutions

Before joining WiseTech, Christ saw firsthand how outdated processes slowed warehouse operations. Many companies still relied on manual record-keeping and paper-based systems, leading to inefficiencies, errors, and delays.

These outdated methods made it hard to track inventory in real time, increasing the risk of mistakes like misplaced items or picking errors. The lack of automation and system-driven processes also led to slower decision-making, reduced productivity, and frustrated both staff and customers.

“Since joining WiseTech, I’ve worked on solutions to automate the very processes I once struggled with,” Christ shares.

“One of the key features I helped design is the Production Rules Engine in CargoWise. It lets customers automate complex warehouse decision-making processes based on flexible user-defined rules. By applying customizable rules in real time, the system optimizes processes like order waving, inventory allocation, putaway, and more, enhancing productivity across the warehouse.”

Collaboration is key

For Christ, one of the biggest advantages of working at a global tech company like WiseTech is the level of collaboration. Product managers don’t work in isolation - they partner closely with developers, UX designers, and other domain experts to create solutions that help global logistics companies operate more efficiently and profitably.

Christ highlights the importance of the dynamic relationship between product and development teams, emphasizing the complementary skills each brings to the table.

“Developers bring the technical expertise, while product managers contribute industry knowledge and an understanding of customer needs,” Christ explains. “When we work together, we create powerful solutions that address real-world problems.”

The goal isn’t just to build software – it’s about creating long-term, scalable solutions that tackle industry pain points holistically. At WiseTech, we think beyond quick fixes and focus on solutions that benefit the entire logistics ecosystem.

Bridging the gap between industry and technical experience

At WiseTech, product managers don’t need deep technical expertise; what matters most is industry knowledge and a problem-solving mindset.

“My IT background certainly gave me a solid foundation, but it wasn’t the main factor in my transition to product management,” Christ explains. “What’s most important is the ability to understand the challenges the industry faces and break those problems down into manageable pieces. From there, it’s about collaborating with the right people, both internally and with customers, to build solutions that make a real difference.”

A place for problem solvers

The logistics industry is evolving rapidly, creating constant opportunities for innovation. As a product manager at WiseTech, you’ll be at the forefront of that transformation, tackling complex challenges and shaping the future of logistics technology.

“If you want to be a product manager, my advice is to stay open-minded and curious,” Christ shares. “Have a student mentality. WiseTech is a great place to do that.”
